Mafia Cards
A role card set for the party game Mafia: painted characters for the Detective, the Mafia and the Citizen, with an art-deco back that gives nothing away.
The set
Three roles, one backPoker size · gold on black
Mafia is played on bluffing, so the card back is the most important surface in the set. A symmetrical art-deco pattern in gold on black gives nothing away and looks the same whichever way it is dealt.
Each role gets a full-figure painted character in 1920s dress: a detective with a hand at his holster, a mafiosa with a pistol held behind her back, and a citizen who has no idea what is coming. The role name runs vertically down the edge so it can be read with the card barely tilted.
A short motion piece turns the cards over in sequence, the way they would be revealed at the table.
